Have you ever tried really hard to do something and then feel that it is never good enough? That it is not exactly as it should be? Lately, it seems everything we do can be criticized.  If you want to be a gentle parent, you are probably raising “soft” and “fragile” kids, unfit to face this cruel world. But also, remember that one time you lost your temper and yelled? That will scar your offspring for life. Perhaps it is no all just black or white; there is a great grey scale out there.

Are you vegan or vegetarian? Do you dare to cut some slack on yourself and acknowledge it is actually very hard to go out and socialize without ever touching any kind of dairy or egg product? Shame on you! The vegan police is here. Do you recycle but still use plastic? Wrong. Do you try to live a zero waste life but along the way realized it is virtually impossible and unsustainable? Well, the environmental police is here as well. Maybe it is time to realize you alone are not in charge of fixing everything in this world.

This one probably takes the cake, try to be feminist. However, not so much that people will say you “hate men”. At the same time, do not exclude any woman. Not by race, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. In the end, there is not a way you can please everyone, nor should you have to. How about just being true to what you feel? It is a thousand times better to be imperfectly feminist, vegan or gentle parent. Because at least you are trying, and that is everything.

One more time for the people in the back… be an imperfect gentle parent. Be an imperfect vegan and be an imperfect feminist. Just to name a few of the million things people love to scrutinize. That is right, from the comfort of their couch and it is very likely they do not lift a finger to try to be better humans.
